Sports rehab and exercise rehabilitation in Crows Nest.
Individually prescribed exercise to rebuild strength and control, and staged return-to-sport programs built around what you need to get back to. HICAPS available.
At a glance
- Exercise therapy reduces pain and improves function in chronic low back pain compared with no treatment or usual care.¹
- Strength training cut sports injuries to less than a third in a large meta-analysis.²
- Return to sport works best as a staged, criteria-based process, not a date on the calendar.³
What is exercise rehabilitation?
Exercise rehabilitation is a program of specific exercises chosen from your assessment to restore strength, mobility, control and confidence. It is progressed as you improve, and it is the part of care with the strongest evidence for lasting results.
What does sports rehab involve?
- Settling pain with hands-on care where helpful, and adjusting training load.
- Rebuilding strength and range of motion in the injured area.
- Sport-specific work: running, jumping, cutting, lifting or throwing.
- Return-to-play testing before full training and competition.
Does exercise rehab work for back pain?
A 2021 Cochrane review of 249 trials found exercise therapy probably reduces pain and improves function in chronic low back pain compared with no treatment, usual care or placebo.¹ No single exercise type was clearly best, so I pick what you will actually do.
Can strength training prevent sports injuries?
A meta-analysis of 25 trials and over 26,000 participants found strength training reduced sports injuries to less than a third, and overuse injuries by almost half.² Stretching on its own showed no clear protective effect.
How do I know when I am ready to return to sport?
The 2016 international consensus describes return to sport as a continuum: return to participation, return to sport, then return to performance.³ We use strength, movement and confidence tests at each step, and you move on when you pass them.
Who is sports rehab for?
Runners, gym-goers, team sport players and anyone wanting to get back to an activity after injury or surgery. For older adults wanting strength and balance, the guided rehabilitation service is a better fit.
Where do you work, and who do you see?
Chiro Central is inside PT Central at 455 Pacific Hwy, Crows Nest, and sees people from St Leonards, North Sydney, Cammeray, Wollstonecraft and Waverton.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between rehab and treatment?
Treatment settles pain. Rehab rebuilds the strength, control and capacity you need so it does not come back. Most plans use both.
Where do rehab sessions happen?
On the gym floor at PT Central, so we can use real equipment and train the movements your sport needs.
When can I return to sport?
When you meet agreed criteria for strength, movement and confidence, not just when a set number of weeks has passed.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly. If you have an EPC plan from your GP, bring it along.
Can I claim on private health?
HICAPS is available on the spot. Check your own cover with your fund.
