Guided Rehabilitation · Crows Nest · Lower North Shore
Guided rehabilitation and exercise for older adults in Crows Nest.
Strength, balance and confidence respond to training at every age. These one-on-one, 45-minute sessions are built around your body: supervised, progressed carefully, and aimed at keeping you steady, capable and independent.
Why strength and balance matter more as we age
From about our sixties, we naturally lose muscle strength and power, and our balance systems quietly get less reliable. That combination is what makes everyday things (stairs, uneven footpaths, getting up off the floor) feel riskier than they used to. Around one in three people over 65 fall each year, and falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalisation in older Australians.
The good news is well established: properly prescribed exercise, especially strength and balance work done at a challenging-but-safe level, reduces falls by around a quarter in community-dwelling older people. Strength training is also one of the most reliable ways to keep joints comfortable and stay independent.
What a session looks like
Sessions run for 45 minutes, one-on-one with Dr Miles Prosser, and each one is built around you rather than a template:
- A quick check-in on how you've felt and moved since last time
- A warm-up suited to your joints, often seated or supported to start
- Strength work for the big muscle groups that keep you independent: legs, hips and back
- Balance and control drills, progressed carefully as your confidence grows
- Mobility and stretching for the areas that feel stiffest
- A short plan of what to practise between sessions, if you want homework
Where sessions happen
Everything happens in the gym space inside PT Central at 455 Pacific Hwy, so you have proper equipment and a controlled environment rather than a crowded class. Because your chiropractor is the one coaching the session, any aches, flare-ups or new complaints can be assessed and adjusted on the spot rather than pushing through them.
Who it's for
- Anyone over 60 who wants to stay strong, steady and independent
- People who have had a fall or a near-miss and want to rebuild confidence
- Those managing arthritis, joint stiffness or a long-term condition who want to exercise safely
- Anyone recovering from illness, surgery or a period of inactivity who needs a careful, supervised return to activity
Fees and rebates
Guided rehabilitation and exercise sessions are $160 for 45 minutes, one-on-one. Private health rebates are available and we process them on the spot with HICAPS. If your GP has placed you on a Medicare EPC plan, bring the referral and we can process that too.
Frequently asked questions
I haven't exercised in years. Is this suitable for me?
Yes. Sessions start exactly where you are, often seated or supported to begin, and progress only as your strength, balance and confidence allow. No previous exercise experience is needed.
I have arthritis (or osteoporosis). Is it safe?
Supervised strength and balance exercise is one of the recommended treatments for arthritis and is appropriate for most people with osteoporosis. We take a full history first and tailor everything to your diagnoses and any guidance from your GP or specialist.
How long is a session and what does it cost?
Sessions run for 45 minutes, one-on-one with Dr Miles Prosser, and cost $160. Private health rebates are available and we process them on the spot with HICAPS.
How often should I come?
Most people do best with one guided session per week, practising their plan between visits. We suggest a rhythm after your first assessment and review it as you progress.
Can I claim a rebate?
Yes. If your private health extras cover includes relevant items, we process rebates on the spot with HICAPS. If your GP has placed you on a Medicare EPC plan, bring the referral and we can process that too.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed for private health rebates. If you are under a GP-managed plan such as EPC, bring the referral paperwork with you.
